THE BIGGER PICTURE
The 30-year-old's severe injury comes as the latest blow for Eddie Howe's team, who recently saw fellow defender Sven Botman ruled out for several months with a cruciate ligament injury of his own. Newcastle will be without both players for the rest of the season and part of the 2024-25 campaign. Furthermore, they were given another headache with midfielder Sandro Tonali, who is already suspended for breaking betting rules, facing another lengthy ban after being charged with 50 more violations.

WHAT NEWCASTLE SAID
"Newcastle United can confirm that club captain Jamaal Lascelles suffered a rupture to the ACL in his right knee during Saturday's victory over West Ham United," a statement from the club read.
"After seeing a specialist consultant, he is expected to undergo surgery next week and will be out for six-to-nine months."

WHAT NEXT FOR NEWCASTLE?
